BOIL, BABY BOIL: SANTA ROSA HOST/CLOVERDALE TO THE RESCUE
When it takes three hours to boil a pot of water, something needs to be done!
The Santa Rosa Host Lions Club ran into a real stumbling block while preparing lunch for the graduating class at Canine Companions for Independence last March. The water to cook the raviolis would not get hot - took three hours to heat! "That's not acceptable", complained one of the cooks. "Something needs to be done because we want to continue serving these lunches", chimed in some of the others. "Isn't our motto "We Serve"?
That promoted the Santa Rosa Host Lions Club to think about replacing the electric stove with a much more efficient gas range. They presented their idea to LPCCI and CCI. With the remodeling of Gittinger Hall in process, it seemed like an opportune time to make the change. With CCI CEO Corey Hudson's and Mrs. Gittinger's approval, the next step was to find a range that would satisfy the needs of a "commercial type kitchen" and yet fit the space allowed.
Santa Rosa Host Lions to the rescue! Lion Barry Bialkoski did the shopping and found Sears was having a sale. He was able to negotiate a 30% discount and free delivery.
The other requirement was to install a gas line. Cloverdale Lions to the rescue! Wes Boardman, honorary member of the Cloverdale Club, contacted Chris Vine of C.V. Plumbing. Working with CCI Facility Manager Jim Flint, Chris installed the line at a 10% discount with the Santa Rosa Host Lions picking up the tab. "It was a tricky installation with all the remodeling in progress, but everything went smoothly," commented Chris. "I'm glad to be a part of it." "It makes for a much more functional kitchen", he added.
This addition has been a real boon to CCI's kitchen. It proved its worth during the recent Tapas, Treasures and Treats fundraiser in May and has been well used ever since. A grateful thank you to the Santa Rosa Host Lions Club and Chris Vine of the Cloverdale Lions Club for satisfying a real need. You exemplify the meaning of "We Serve".

Lions International stamp Club, Chapter One, needs your immediate support.
The first recognized LIONS International Stamp Club (LISC) chapter was formed in 1976 during the 22nd Annual District 4-C2 Convention at Konocti Harbor Inn.
More than 22 District LIONS members voted to petition the LISC Board of Directors to form a LISC Chapter as provided by the LISC By-Laws after receiving permission from District Governor Jack Anthony to form a District Stamp Club.
The District members were interested in the hobby of stamp collecting (philately). The members also learned of the many postage stamps made by many countries honoring LIONS, and LIONS Clubs, and their voluntary humanitarian programs.
There are now 15 LISC Chapters throughout the world with over 500 members. There are many LISC members who have no affiliation with any Chapters, because of the number of available members to form a Chapter.
LISC Chapter One (District 4C-2 Stamp Club) is now lacking enough members to continue to be recognized by the LISC Board of Directors. The required 20 members needs to be met soon. I'm requested the LIONS of District 4-C2 to step up and join LISC now so it can continue to provide a service to our communities and District projects. Even if you are not interested in stamps, or how they can educate you, as hobby, they can be fun, and enjoyable recreation. You can learn about the multitudes of LIONS Club programs throughout the world. You can help to provide stamps for Veterans Home Stamp Clubs. You can provide stamps and collecting materials for school children or senior citizens programs in your community.
If you want to lean more about LISC, go to www.lisc.nl . The LISC Membership Application is on the website that can print and complete.
In 1951 a Lions stamp club was founded under the auspices of Lions Clubs International. It is an independent entity with its own Constitution, rules, and regulations as well as a Policy Manual. Changes in the Constitution have to be approved by the LCI Board of Directors and the Legal Department.
LIONS Club International Founder, Melvin Jones, was one of the initiators and founders of LISC. As early as the 1920's Lions postal cancellations had already been in use by various Lions Clubs for their special fundraising events. In 1940 the Cuban Postal Authorities issued the first official Lions stamp dedicated to the International Lions Convention in Havana. It clearly shows the Lions Logo. A similar stamp was issued for Rotary International as well.
In the course of the years more than 15 LISC Chapters have been established in all corners of the world. The members of LISC were not necessarily Philatelists at the outset but by realizing how wonderful this hobby of collecting Lions stamps is they decided to join our organization. They have also recognized the special relationship existing between LISC members. It supports and develops friendship and is an excellent way to communicate with other fellow Lions.
LISC publishes a quarterly periodical called The Philatelist bringing the latest news about new issues, covers, discoveries, reports from the various chapters as well as organizational matters.
LISC participates in the International Lions Convention with its own booth, issues covers with a special LISC cachet with the various Convention dates. It also produces an annual LISC pin.
LISC has issued a special Lions stamp album as well as the 2007 LISC catalogue. It operates a New Issue Service for stamps that have been approved by the LISC Verification Committee, and sell Lions Club theme stamps for collectors.
A Membership Roster is mailed Bi-annually to all the LISC members to enable members to communicate and exchange Lions stamps.
In addition to Lions stamps, either with a clear Lions Logo, or Lions text overprint, Lions Topical stamps fitting into a Lions Club activity or theme have been included in Lions stamp collections. Such themes may include Leprosy and blindness.
LIONS First Day Covers (FDC's) for LIONS events and Conventions can be part of a Lions collection.
For more information about LISC contact District 4-C2 Stamp Club (LISC Chapter One) Chairman Dr. Howard Levenson at howard326@sbcglobql.net or write him at 326 Mountain View Avenue; San Rafael, CA 94901-1352

From the Blue Print Editor: June 22, 2010
This is an informational piece by Editor Andy Erickson:
Lion Andy urges every club in the District to publish a bulletin. Club bulletins are an excellent way for clubs to keep their members informed not only of Club activities and events, but also of District, Multiple District and International events and activities of potential interest. Not all lions have access to email or the Web Site, and so this is a good way to keep them from feeling left out. He has written an informative article Why Club Bulletins? on the subject, with suggestions on how to go about it the right way.
